That’s a good question. I think it’s because I regularly feel that I’ve got something to say that is worth saying, and that I’d really like to know to what you have to say in return. That is what the ‘Comments’ box is for!
Let me be up-front and honest straight away. I wouldn’t be doing it if I hadn’t written the first six volumes of what I hope is a very good story for bright children from 10 – 110 years old (that isn’t everyone). You can’t fail to notice that I make casual reference to that fact fairly regularly.
I freely admit that I AM trying to tempt you to explore my website and to find out more about my child protagonists: Gordon, Grace, Nick and Miranda: on a mission to make the world a better place.
But there’s more to it than that…
Maybe it’s because I no longer have halls full of children that have been marched in by their tutors to listen to what I had to say: simply because I thought it was worth listening to.
But I’m not a preacher. No, there’s more to it than that…
It definitely has something to do with the fact that I’ve been trying to make sense of my existence on this planet for 73 years now, and that I’ve seen and heard a few things in that time that bear recounting and repeating.
There are SO many people to whom I am indebted for their wisdom and clear-sightedness – so that I didn’t have to learn everything the hard way. But the path to knowledge is unfolding truth… (Someone definitely said that once. The Internet won’t tell me who; but if it was you, I would like to know) …and I have certainly bumped into a few hard lessons along the way. It would be good if what I had to say could save you the trouble of barking your shins on the same obstacles.
I suppose I’m hoping that what I find myself wanting to say from time to time will resonate with a fair number of fellow-travellers out there suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (and here I acknowledge my greatest debt of all – to the unrivalled Bard of Avon – and confess that one of my most cherished hopes is that one or two of the molecules that once were part of him may now reside in me).
Who knows? – Maybe we can set up a mutually beneficial dialogue that might in some small way help Gordon and Grace in their efforts to make the world a better place. You can always leave a comment, and if you want to exchange views at greater length I can always be reached at email@example.com.
So now, when I feel moved to share a thought with you that I think may help us all to remember the three commitments that would certainly make the world a MUCH better place (if only everyone genuinely subscribed to them), you can respond by contacting me and telling me what YOU think.
“What ARE the three commitments?” I hear you cry, “… and which Christmas cracker did you pull them out of?” I think that has to be the subject of another post.
